St Bede's Literary Critics
On Thursday 20th June 2024, the winners of the UK’s longest-running and best-loved book awards for children and young people, the Yoto Carnegies, were announced.
For the first time, the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Writing is awarded to a Black British author, and the current Children’s Laureate – Joseph Coelho – for his “beautifully descriptive” novel in verse The Boy Lost in the Maze illustrated by Kate Milner (Otter-Barry Books).
At St Bede's, our students take part in shadowing the Yoto judging process for the Yoto Carnegie Medals; they read, discuss and review the books on each shortlist, engage in reading related activity which they can share online, and vote for their favourites to win the Shadowers’ Choice Awards.
