Results Day
How you will receive results
All GCSE results will be emailed to you on the morning of publication (from 09:00). We will use the email addresses we have stored on our systems, and have used throughout your time at school.
We no longer provide results in person, so please do not come into school to collect results.
Most importantly, from all at St Bede's - GOOD LUCK!!!
How to contact us if you have questions or would like to discuss your results and next steps
The best way to contact the school is via our dedicated email address; exams@stbedes.cambs.sch.uk
You can also call us on results day using the main school number; 01223 568816, where a dedicated member of staff will be able to answer any of your questions.
Post-Results Services
We hope that you receive the grades you were hoping for, however sometimes this may not be the case. Don't worry! The first thing you should do if you are unsure about whether you can still attend your first choice, post 16 destination, is to call that particular provider. Someone will be on hand to talk you through your options.
Post-16 Provider Instructions and Contacts - Results Day 2024
Additionally, if you find that you are very close to a grade boundary, or feel that the results for a particular subject/s do not match your expectation, there are other steps you can take.
1. You can request access to a copy of your marked script
If you wish to access a copy of your marked script, please contact us using the main email address; exams@stbedes.cambs.sch.uk, with a clear heading in your email in the following format; ACCESS TO SCRIPT_NAME_SUBJECT. You will need to clearly state that you give us permission to request a copy of your exam script within the main email.
We must apply to the examination provider on your behalf (i.e. you are unable to do this yourself). There is no fee for this service.
Please note that St Bede's' teaching staff will not be checking scripts on your behalf as they will not be familiar with the marking scheme and/or the tolerances applied.
2. You can request a review of the marking of an externally assessed component/s
It may be that you feel that your grade does not tally with what you were expecting, you feel you are close to the next grade boundary, or you have been contacted by St Bede's as being close to the next grade boundary, following our own internal checks.
If this is the case, we can contact the exam provider and request a review of marking on your behalf. Again, you are unable to do this yourself - you must contact us if you wish to pursue this option.
When a script is reviewed, an experienced reviewer from the exam board will check that the mark scheme has been applied correctly to your script/s. There are 3 possible outcomes following a request of this service:
- As a result of a review of marking, your original mark may be lowered, meaning your grade potentially decreases
- Your original grade is confirmed as correct, meaning there is no change to your final grade
- Your original mark may be raised, meaning your grade potentially increases
The review service does incur a fee, though this is not chargeable if the review leads to a change of grade (up or down). The fee is therefore only payable if the review does not lead to a change in grade.
Each examination provider charges separate fees for this particular service, listed below (correct for 2023/24 GCSE series):
Examination Provider |
Cost per Unit / Component (£) |
AQA | 42.00 |
Eduqas (WJEC) | 40.00 |
OCR | 61.50 |
Pearson (Edexcel) | 44.50 |
Please note that we (St Bede's) also require an additional £2.00 administrative fee to carry out any review request.
If you decide you would like to proceed with a grade review: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Given the chance of grades decreasing following a review of marking, we do not recommend a review unless you are close to the grade boundary above (we typically recommend within 3 marks or so for most papers, though this does depend on the size of the grade boundary). You can contact us if you would like further advice about this.
We also suggest that you review all units/components of a subject, as it is not possible to know which unit or component a review may find additional marks within, and the overall grade is determined by the total marks from all components of that exam.
- EXAMPLE: if you are within 2 marks of the next grade boundary in maths (AQA), we would advise reviewing all 3 papers (components) of the maths exams. The potential cost to you should the review not result in a change of grade would therefore be 3 x £42.00 = £126.00 (+ £2.00 non-refundable school admin fee) = £128.00.
As mentioned above, no fee will be charged should the review result in a change of grade (up or down).
The table provided below details the subject, the corresponding examination provider, and the number of externally assessed units/components within that subject exam, to enable you to calculate the potential cost of a review:

Exam Provider |
Number of Externally Assessed Units / Components |
Potential Total Cost (£) |

*Some/all of this subject are assessed by coursework and or/internally assessed and moderated work. Please contact the Exams Officer for more information using the specified email address (above).
As all sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) contribute to the overall combined science grade, it is not possible to review one of the sciences, in isolation. There are 2 papers per individual science, so all 6 components would need to be reviewed, realistically.
Next Steps
The final deadline for any review, as set by the examination providers, is 26/09/2024. We will not accept any requests for reviews after 19/09/2024, however, in order to provide sufficient time for our staff to process requests.
We will not process a review until:
1. The candidate consent form (below) has been read, understood, completed, signed and returned by you (the student).
The document can be completed electronically and returned, by email, to exams@stbedes.cambs.sch.uk, with a clear heading in your email in the following format; REVIEW OF MARKING_NAME_SUBJECTS.
Alternatively, you can print the document and complete by hand, which can be given in at reception in an envelope, marked clearly with the following information: REVIEW OF MARKING, NAME, CANDIDATE NUMBER, SUBJECTS.
Candidate Consent Form - Review of Marking
2. The correct payment has been received into your Wisepay account, which will remain open until 19th September 2024 (the closing date). Please use the same username and password as you have always used on your Wisepay account.
If you cannot remember your username and/or password, please contact our finance department; finance@stbedes.cambs.sch.uk, who can reset these for you.
The total cost payable can be calculated using the table above, with the addition of the flat, non-refundable administrative fee of £2.00.
Once the consent form has been completed and returned, and we have received the correct payment, we will process the request immediately and notify you of results as soon as they are received.
If any reviews are successful and result in a grade change, we will refund you the cost associated with the review of that particular subject, less the non-refundable £2.00 admin fee, by the end of October when all review results have been received.
3. In the event of an unsuccessful review, you can also lodge an appeal
If you are unsatisfied following a review of marking, you can contact us to lodge an appeal on your behalf. Please refer to our policy document, for more information: Exams Internal Appeals Procedure: Review of Results and Appeals
If you decide to lodge an appeal, please do so via the main email address exams@stbedes.cambs.sch.uk, with the clear heading APPEAL_NAME_SUBJECTS. You will also need to attach a completed version of the JCQ form, below:
The following JCQ document provides a full overview of all post-results services, for your information:
