Additional Languages

Students who are native speakers of other languages may take a GCSE in that subject.

We currently run after-school lessons (once a week) for native speakers of Italian and Spanish. We encourage students to sit the exam in Year 10, although sometimes the exam is taken earlier in Year 9, depending on the individual.

We can enter students for a GCSE in the following languages:

Portuguese; Spanish; French; German; Italian; Polish; Russian; Cantonese; Mandarin; Japanese.

There is also the opportunity for Year 9 students to study GCSE Classical Greek Language and Civilisation at St. Mary's. This is a two-year course. The lessons happen after-school, one day per week.
